Business Writer

The business writer is a member of the content marketing team with responsibility for online and offline content presence, along with the key focus of data and research-driven content creation. The role will focus on translating economic and labor conditions into relatable content for business audiences.

This role requires prolific writing skills and the ability to craft the story of the state of the economy and labor market as well as how ThinkWhy’s data and platform can impact hiring decisions. The ideal writer will have the editorial skills and digital prowess to help create and maintain our brand voice in clear, understandable, relatable news and reporting. This role also requires strong analytical skills, ability to translate data into interesting content, ability to understand macro and microeconomic conditions alongside attention to detail and project management skills.


• Develop new deliverables and propose new content formats, frameworks and strategies
• Work alongside ThinkWhy’s our researcher and chief analyst or to distill relevant economic data into clear narratives and summaries
• Prepare instruction manuals, journal articles, and other supporting documents to communicate complex and technical information more easily
• Work as a member of the writing and editorial team for the monthly labor market newsletters and press releases
• Work directly with PR agency to prepare and release monthly national reporting
• Find, prioritize and manage concurrent writing projects and other tasks as needed
• Work with department head and key stakeholders to develop and execute an ongoing editorial calendar of enterprise stories and long-form projects that advance ThinkWhy’s entry and position in the industry
• Conceive, develop, research and write smart, in-depth feature stories with an emphasis on labor market analysis, occupation and wages, hiring decisions and the full work life cycle
• Write a minimum of 2 articles/blogs a day for the website or email news products
• Target and develop key relationships with industry influencers, such as economists, senior management or business leaders for interviews and content contribution to ultimately build brand awareness and image position in the industry



• Are a professional writer with 5+ years' relevant experience in content writing, technical writing and/or blogging
• Hold a degree in english, journalism, communications, or economics. Experience in the labor market, economic reporting and/or career search market, a plus
• Crave the challenge to build stories that influence the growth of a thriving company
• Possess the ability to clearly and precisely express complex ideas and data with interesting and compelling angles
• Demonstrate curiosity, creativity, drive for excellence and attention to detail
• Possess confidence, patience and flexibility in an evolving environment
• Have proven organizational management skills, and a proactive writing style, and are independent and deadline-driven
• Are experienced creating, adapting and unifying content for various channels
• Have knowledge in the following: Photoshop, Fireworks, web analytics, social media, streaming audio and visual, blogs, SEO, CSS, XML and other web/programming languages


• Demonstrate knowledge of the company and its industry by writing eight to ten pieces a week, primarily self-developed through research. Includes content posts pushed out with infographics through social media and posted to the site
• Writing press releases (one each month)
• Demonstrate engagement and ideation skills in team meetings
